Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA)
New entry procedures for visitors to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program
From 12 January 2009, all UK visitors travelling to the US under the Visa
Waiver Programme (VWP) will be required to obtain travel authorisation
online through the new Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA).
ESTA replaces the old manual I-94W form. Eligible visitors seeking to travel
to the United States under the VWP should apply for travel authorization,
free of charge, via the official ESTA web site at
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
Please be aware that unauthorized third-parties have established web sites
which charge for information about ESTA and for submitting applications. The
US Government does not charge a fee to obtain information about, apply for,
or obtain a travel authorization through the ESTA web site. Use of a private
service to apply for travel authorization via ESTA will not expedite the
